A mother has described the heartbreaking moment her 14-year-old boy told her ‘I’m going to die’ after he was stabbed.
The teenager had been beaten and then stabbed in the chest after finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and being attacked by a group of other teenagers.
His mother rushed to the scene of the crime and found her son, bleeding profusely, stabbed in the street.
She said the boy touched her face and told her “I love you mam but I’m going to die”.
The person who wielded the knife was also only 14 and received a community-based juvenile referral order after pleading guilty to causing aggravated assault. Reports from Wales Online.
The victim’s mother called the sentence passed on the attacker “disgusting” and said she wanted anyone who wielded a knife to be jailed, regardless of their age.
The victim was stabbed in the chest in the early evening of February 10 this year while sitting with friends at the Gorseinon bus station.
Swansea Crown Court heard the background to the attack was a scuffle the previous day between friends of the victim and friends of the teenager with a knife, a scuffle in which the victim was not involved.
On the day of the attack, a group of eight youths traveled from Swansea to Gorseinon to seek “revenge”.
One of the group was armed with a knife and a metal rod. Around 6 p.m., the group encountered the victim, and some of them repeatedly punched and kicked the boy before hitting him with the metal bar and then stabbing him.
The gang then dispersed and the blade was thrown away.
The mother of the stabbed boy said she and her partner rushed to the scene after being told what had happened and found her son bleeding profusely and passed out.
She said: “I kept screaming for someone to help my son until two amazing ladies who were stopped in traffic came to my rescue. I took off my top so they could use it to stop the bleeding, but in a few minutes it was covered in blood.
“When I spoke to him to keep him awake, he put his hand on my face and said, ‘I love you mam, but I’m going to die’.
“I needed to hear that from my baby. I collapsed and so did the woman who helped me. We just cried.
“I held his face and told him I love him and he can’t leave me and to stay awake even if he’s listening to me for the last time – and luckily he stayed with me.
“He fought so hard and I couldn’t be prouder. They punctured his lungs, liver and diaphragm and he is a very happy boy. And we are very lucky parents to have such a fighter on our hands.”
