A 17-year-old boy was arrested today in connection with the death of a “little hero” father, who was found lifeless on his own doorstep.

The teenager is the second suspect arrested in connection with the death of Samuel Hamilton.

Richard Wotherspoon, 32, made no pleadings in connection with the murder charge of Mr Hamilton, 56, who was found battered by his own mother on Wednesday last week.

Wotherspoon was remanded in custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

And today Scottish Police confirmed a 17-year-old man has also been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Mr Hamilton.

Mr Hamilton was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene in Bellshill, Lanarkshire last Wednesday daily record.

Tributes were paid to the huge Celtic fan on social media as his passing prompted grief from friends and family.

Police attend the scene and initially treated the death as “unexplained”.

Her sister Sammy Jo also changed her profile picture and simply wrote “my wee dad” with a broken heart emoji.

A friend wrote: “Thoughts are with Sammy Jo, Nicole and the rest of the Hamiltons. I’m sorry for your loss and thinking of you all.

“Great guy and will always be remembered by so many. REST IN PEACE”

Wotherspoon, who was charged last weekend, is expected to appear in court again within the next eight days.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear in Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday May 30.
