The family were due to fly to Turkey for their first holiday since the pandemic began, but eventually returned home after waiting nearly 12 hours as their flight was cancelled
A devastated little boy asked his mother “why did the naughty plane people cancel our holiday” as his family’s trip was canceled with an 11-hour delay.
The family of 10 had planned to fly TUI to Turkey around 2pm last Friday for their first break since the outbreak of the pandemic.
Arriving on time at Manchester Airport, they made it through check-in and security quickly, only to find that their departure was delayed by two hours.
Eventually they were called to the gate where they had to wait another two hours before being told the flight was overbooked and people had to leave voluntarily.
When not enough passengers reported, the flight was canceled.

Deciding to wait at the airport for another flight, their worst fears were confirmed at 2.15am when TUI texted them saying they were not going on holiday.
Mum Emma, 39, told the Mirror: “We were devastated, we hadn’t had a holiday like so many other people in two years.
“Before we arrived it was the check in that I was most concerned about as it had sounded so horrible the past few weeks but we got through that and the security penalty.
“My sister-in-law looked at her phone which said there was a two-hour delay, but the TUI agent reassured us our plane was there.
“We got through and found there was a two hour delay and it was so packed there were huge queues to even get a drink let alone food. Many places were closed.
“Eventually we were called to the gate where there were more delays and then it turned out to be overbooked so it was cancelled.
“They started weeding out hotels but they made them past where we live so we waited at the airport because the kids were sleeping on the floor by now.
“At 2.15am we got a text message that our holiday was cancelled. My eldest was awake but we had to wake my youngest and he collapsed.

Another passenger faced with a travel nightmare was Steve Hession, 45, who was due to fly to Kos with his brother-in-law and bride for their wedding on Saturday.
They were due to arrive in Kos for the couple’s ceremony, only to have their flight canceled via text message, sparking a frantic search for alternative flights.
The pair eventually reached the Greek island via Newcastle, while Steve and family hope to join them this week.
He said: “It was just horrific.
“It was almost too much, last night we all cried, it wasn’t just a holiday. This has been planned for 18 months.
“There are 40 people coming from across the UK and Australia and the couple were unable to fly with us.”
A TUI spokesman said: “The mid-year holidays are always an incredibly busy time with many customers wanting to get away.
“We would like to apologize to the customers impacted by the low number of cancellations and delays this weekend caused by various operational and supply chain issues.
“We want to reassure our customers that we are doing everything we can to minimize delays and thank them for their patience and understanding during this time.”
