BOYZONE star Ronan Keating couldn’t hold back tears as he remembered his late mother 24 years after her death.
Marie Keating tragically passed away from breast cancer at the age of 51.
On Instagram, Ronan explained that he wanted to share what he went through on the anniversary of her death for those who might be going through the same thing.
He said: “I often look on social media and wonder, ‘why would anyone post such private things?”
“And I think, after today, I think it’s great to share and because it makes you feel like other people are understanding what you’re going through.
“It makes me think about what I have to go through today. Today I lost my mother 24 years ago.
“My family and I have been through the most terrible, most terrible situation of losing a mother.”
Ronan praised his mother calling her a legend.
He said in the emotional clip: “Marie Keating. She passed away 24 years ago. She was 51 years old. She died of cancer.
“She’s our best friend. She’s a legend, she’s as cool as they come. The best mom.
“She never gets to see her grandchildren, most of them do.
“She has so many incredible grandchildren and it’s heartbreaking that she never gets to see them.
“I wonder about today’s conversation with my mother about my children, about my life.
“There are so many things in the 24 years that I’ve been through and that I’ve accomplished that I want to share with my mom.
“Also to get – when your mom puts her arm around you and says, ‘everything will be okay’. – that feeling.
“I don’t understand anymore and there is nothing like that feeling.
“When you’re going through a tough time and your mom tells you ‘everything is going to be okay,’ you think it’s going to be okay. That’s what happens.”
Ronan also raised awareness about the disease and urged his fans to listen to their bodies.
He said: “One message would be, pay attention to your body. Cancer is a terrible disease and early detection is your best chance of survival.
“Mom died of one of the curable forms of breast cancer, it was heartbreaking.
“But today the success rate is 98%, the survival rate when it comes to that cancer is amazing. Thank God.”
The Boyzone star had tears in her eyes thinking about today’s conversation with Marie and how it unfolded.
He said: “So I think about the conversations I’ve had with her now about the kids. Some of them have gotten too big.
“Jack is 22, Missy is 20, she’s on Dancing With The Stars and Ali loves horseback riding and Jack loves his rugby.
“Coops is a little legend and Coco is a fool. They are beautiful children, they are gorgeous mothers.
“Stormy is amazing. Thank you for putting her in my life. I miss you and I love you.”
