Katie Piper calls for tough sentences over acid attacks
Katie Piper bravely shared details of the acid attack that left her scarred for life as she underwent a new eye surgery.
The 38-year-old Loose Women presenter suffered horrific injuries in a brutal attack in 2008, when she was hit in the face with sulfuric acid while walking on the streets of London.
She suffered burns to her face, chest, arms and hands, and was blind in one eye, and has undergone 400 operations since the attack.
In a social media post, she documented her latest surgery, which involved injections into the eyeball to repair some damage to the cornea.
“Yesterday I went back to @centrefforightsuk for further treatment. I saw the incredible @SherazDaya, my amazing doctor who has helped me throughout the years to regain my sight,” Katie said of the operation.

The Loose Woman panelist, who suffered horrific injuries to her face, arms, chest and hands, including going blind in one eye, outlined the process.
“The procedure was a PGRF treatment and included an injection into my eye shadow (which I wasn’t expecting) but jokes aside I am grateful for the skill of all the team and the advancements in the team. sets in modern medicine,” she continued.
“This journey of treatment will hopefully help my cornea, which I have been having constant problems with,” added the mother-of-two.

Earlier this year, she was candid about the skin graft she had to get after the acid attack, and said surgeons rebuilt her face in a pioneering surgery that used collagen and elastin from a cow.
“My burn went through my muscles and down to the skeleton, so it was a very, very deep burn,” Katie said on an episode of Lorraine Kelly’s What If? podcasts in March.

“Because it is a corrosive, you would think that with fire you could put it out and maybe minimize the damage, but to me, all four layers of the skin were destroyed,” she explains.
“This foundation is made with collagen and elastin from a cow. Line up all the mood cow jokes! My face is made of a cow,” she laughs.
