Brenda Edwards announces special birthday plans to celebrate her late son Jamal

Brenda Edwards said she will be hosting a special event to “celebrate the life” of music entrepreneur son Jamal on his 32nd birthday.

The DJ, who rose to fame after founding the music platform SBTV in 2006, died on February 20 at the age of 31.

In her memory, Loose Women presenter Edwards, 53, said she had planned a “big cooking session” at Studio 338 in London on August 24.

Edwards shared a poster for the event on her Instagram, writing: “I celebrate my children’s birthday every year and this year is no exception, it will be a very memorable day celebrating her life. Jamal’s life!

“For more information and to book tickets please see @sbtvonline see you soon! Thanks very much”.

The poster said that the surprise performances of the guests have not been announced yet.

Jamal is credited with helping to launch a host of UK musical acts to stardom, including Ed Sheeran, Dave and Jessie J.

He is also an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, a charity led by the Prince of Wales, and in 2014 he was made an MBE for his services to music.

Earlier this month, a coroner ruled Jamal’s cause of death was cardiac arrest after taking cocaine.

Following the revelation, his mother Brenda shared a statement on Twitter that she was in a “state of shock”.
