A bride-to-be had to cry her eyes out when her £20,000 dream overseas wedding was ruined after TUI canceled more flights and lost her luggage this week.

Leeds couple Melissa Robinson and Michael Waite’s big day is quickly turning into a nightmare after some guests and family members were left without a flight due to the ongoing TUI travel crisis.

The couple invested £20,000 in their dream ceremony in Cyprus, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, but now face the possibility of canceling the special occasion.

It comes as hundreds of flights have been canceled by TUI during the school holidays across the country, and hundreds more are expected to follow.

Heartbroken beauty therapist Melissa, 39, said: “It’s a disaster. I cried my eyes out. I just want to go home.”

The couple have been planning their big day since March last year after Michael, 32, proposed on Boxing Day the year before, Leeds live reports.

They had planned to say yes at the four-star Nissi Beach Resort in Ayia Napa, but instead of relaxing in the sun, Melissa spent the day crying after finding out that her family and scaffolder Michael were stranded in the UK.

Some guests were due to depart at 7am from Manchester Airport, which was hit hardest by the travel chaos, but this was delayed four hours to 11am.

However, once they arrived in Larnaca, the airline showered the takeoff with continued bad news.

First, an important piece of luggage containing the clothing of Melissa’s three children and wedding gear was lost.

The couple were then told Michael’s brother Duane, 28, the best man, his daughter Minnie, 4, the flower girl, and the rest of their family had canceled their TUI flights.

Melissa’s new mother-in-law, Michael’s two sons, his two sisters, their children, his two brothers, his aunt and Melissa’s two bridesmaids were due to depart on Wednesday, but they were on their way to the airport when TUI emailed them to say flights were also going painted.

“I was so excited about the wedding. Now I’m absolutely shattered,” added Melissa.

“Flights were canceled out of the blue. We’re just seeing if we can get them on alternative flights. Otherwise we will have to cancel them.”

Their wedding was decimated by TUI cancellations as only 15 of 64 guests made the trip successfully and the family had to spend hundreds more on clothes found in lost luggage.

Melissa said: “My best man for the anniversary has no clothes. All he has is a pair of shorts that his mother had to go to the stores to buy.

“We keep calling TUI and they just keep saying they haven’t heard anything.

“It’s all down to disruptions at the airport and TUI canceling flights out of the blue.

“I am very angry with the airline. It caused me stress, excitement and tears. TUI is to blame for everything. It’s a nightmare.”

Groom Michael added: “Obviously I’m angry at the airline.

“I was so angry at how badly the trip had started that I felt like canceling everything and booking a flight home.

“I just stayed to comfort Melissa because she was so upset. It was a nightmare from start to finish.

“We’ve been here for two days and TUI is simply not interested.”

The flight cancellations have caused heartache and chaos for many others across the UK.

A Welsh couple had to call off their overseas wedding, while another had to cancel their honeymoon after airline problems.

A TUI spokesman said: “We are incredibly sorry to the wedding party affected by the recent disruption to our operations.

“We understand that delays and last minute cancellations are incredibly disappointing and we want to assure you that we are doing everything we can to ensure you can enjoy the celebrations as planned.

“We are contacting all customers affected by cancellations directly and offering them the option of a full refund or re-booking their holiday with an incentive.

“Our teams will speak to the newlyweds as soon as possible to find a solution for their wedding and to understand how important this time is for them.

“While any delay and cancellation is unfortunate, the vast majority of our flights are operating as planned.”
