Wedding preparations can take an extraordinary amount of time and effort. So as you get into those final days before saying yes, it’s normal to hope and pray that nothing goes wrong.

But one bride’s wedding was thrown into an uproar this weekend when her cousin demanded she postpone the entire event for her and her husband – just two days before the ceremony.

Explaining what happened on Reddit, the bride said her cousin’s husband was recently involved in an accident and is now in the hospital recovering.

And rather than simply not attending the wedding, her cousin has asked her to scrap the whole thing with just 48 hours’ notice – so the venue they paid for and the guests in attendance can be used for a “health” instead party” for her husband.

“Yesterday my family and I had a small dinner to celebrate the wedding. We didn’t expect Elena to come, but she did, which we had no problem with. But during dinner I noticed her looking at me and [my boyfriend] Matt weird – like she’s angry.

“All of a sudden, she stood up and said, ‘Matthew and Madison, you are an absolutely perfect match and I’m so happy you’re getting married, but I want you guys to postpone the wedding so all the preparations can be done for my husband turned into a get-well party.’ “

The woman then told her cousin that she would not be canceling or postponing her wedding, but said she would understand if she chose not to attend so she could be with her husband.

But the bride was subsequently branded “selfish” and “reckless” for not canceling.

She added, “Matthew looked at each other funny, but then I answered and said, ‘Elena, I’m very saddened by what happened to your husband, but that’s no reason for me to postpone my wedding, which I’m in spent the past year organizing. I am sorry but I will not be canceling my wedding, you are free to cancel if you wish.”

“She snapped at me and said how big an asshole I was and that I was selfish and inconsiderate of her husband. I told her that in our three years of marriage, her husband and I had never had a real conversation.

“She stormed out of the house and we haven’t spoken since.”

Commenters on the Reddit post were mostly on the bride’s side, with many of them saying that she shouldn’t have to call off her wedding just days before the wedding was supposed to happen — although they also sympathized with the heartbreak her cousin is going through as a result her husband’s injury.
