It is a widely acknowledged fact that a person watches TV in this world full of misfortune, but wants to be laughed at.

So thankfully, Bridgerton is back to give us a bit of much-needed escapism – and a witty Lady Whistledown as we left her.

To say that Netflix’s powerful adventure Regency is back with a bang, might give the wrong impression considering its previous raised eyebrows bedroom scenes.

But from the opening moments of the long-awaited second season, the lavish show has proven it hasn’t lost its sparkle.

The same arrangement: It was the beginning of ‘The Season’ in The ‘Ton, and after Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) found her Duke of Hastings (Rege-Jean Page) last year, now comes turn the two of you make yourself a match.

So is the excellent Eloise reluctant to follow in her sister’s footsteps to claim the coveted title of the Queen’s “Diamond,” the most valid debut of the season? Not if she has her way, as she offers one of the many single-layer cut pads: “I’m tied up like a prized calf for auction”.

The main action, however, centers on Anthony, Daphne’s brother, played by Jonathan Bailey, who has donned the show’s mantle from last year’s rogue Duke movie.

Just minutes after the first episode, it’s clear that this romantic hero has successfully completed some of our most beloved historical drama genres – the frenetic Mr Darcy. He doesn’t believe in love, thinks the whole thing is, to be completely, frankly, completely absurd, sets high expectations and ….. will obviously fall for a unique woman incomparable, who taught him the fault of his way.

The change Netflix adds, however, will be women – as our hero is quickly thrust into a romantic love triangle with two half-sisters, both scandalous past.

Add in Nicola Coughlan’s sparkling performance as society gossips about Lady Whistledown, Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte’s catty back and forth and dry bras from long-suffering Eloise, and Bridgerton – its most successful show streamer so far – gone and done again.

For a period drama that is gripping, gripping, and addictive, with the sparkle of Dynasty-style backstabbing and Jane Austen-style wit, Bridgerton is the “Golden Diamond” outline” of the season (TV).

There’s only one thing it lacks….and the despicable Duke.
