Bridgerton actress Charithra Chandran has revealed the inclusion of Bollywood music in the show brought her to tears.
handran, 25, plays Edwina Sharma in the second season of the hit Netflix show.
The upcoming series of the Regency-era drama will revolve around the protagonist Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, who appears to become involved in a love triangle between Kate Sharma and her sister Edwina.
Chandran, who was born in Scotland to Indian parents, said before the publication that when she first heard the orchestral version of the theme song for the Bollywood film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, it felt like “the collision of the two [her] worlds”.
She said, “This movie, this song is like a Bollywood staple.”
Adding, “This literally brought tears to my eyes because it’s like the collision of my two worlds.
“And you know, I think when you’re growing up as children of immigrants, it’s so hard to figure out your identity and sometimes you don’t know where you belong.
“And that’s one of those defining moments where you’re like, ‘Okay, I get it now.’
“I can be both and I can do both.”
Chandran, who previously starred in Amazon’s sci-fi series Alex Rider, will be joined on screen by Simone Ashley, also of Indian descent.
Ashley, 26, said: “I think it’s so much fun, I think what the show has done just bought a sense of joy for representing many different cultures and for this one specifically in South Asian cultures.”
She added, “I think representation and diversity on screen is a very complex conversation that we all have all the time, and it’s an important one, but for me personally, I just want to have some fun with it every now and then, with normality and joy.”
Bridgerton Season 2, produced by Shonda Rhimes, arrives on Netflix on March 25th.
