British-Indian actress Simone Ashley, who plays Kate Sharma on Netflix’s Bridgerton, says she could never have imagined she was starring in a historical drama

Actress Simone Ashley said Bridgerton saved her from a typo.
The Indian-British actress, who plays Kate Sharma in the second series of the hit Netflix series, said she may have never before imagined herself starring in a historical drama.
But thanks to playing the color-blind Bridgerton, she says she no longer thinks about the color of her skin when looking for new roles.
“I don’t watch period dramas because I feel like I can’t relate to them, maybe because I can’t see myself in a movie,” she said. The glamor Journal.
“Then Bridgerton came along.”
Simone’s ferocious character of Kate is a key part of the show’s second series, alongside her on-screen sister Edwina, played by Charithra Chandran.

And after years of feeling like she was being typecast for how she looked, Simone said: “I’ve always seen myself for my personality, not the color of my skin.
“Representation is important, and there is a minority that needs to be more represented, and I’m very aware of that.”
Simone is Bridgerton’s new female lead, taking over from Phoebe Dynevor, whose character Daphne Bridgerton was the main focus of the first series but this time in a much smaller role.

Regé-Jean Page, who plays Daphne’s love interest in the Duke of Hastings, famously quit after the first series.
Confirming he won’t be returning, he wrote on Instagram last April: “Trip of a time of a lifetime.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family – not just on screen but off screen as well.
“Our amazingly creative and generous cast, crew, amazing fans – it’s all beyond my imagination.

“Love is real and will continue to grow.”
And then he said that his plan has always been to only appear in one series.
I said Diversity : “It’s a one-season arc. It’s going to have a beginning, a middle, an end – give us a year.
“[I thought] ‘That’s exciting,’ because then it’s like a limited series. I get in, I have to do my bit and then the Bridgerton family will continue. “
