Bridgerton star Simone Ashley has teased the return of her characters and co-star Jonathan Bailey for the third season of the hit Netflix show.

The 27-year-old says newlyweds Kate and Anthony’s story is “just beginning” after the latest second season of the show’s blossoming relationship tracing show ended the season with their marriage.

The Viscount becomes tangled in a love triangle with sisters Kate Sharma and Edwina Sharma, shifting the focus of the show away from Anthony’s sister Daphne Bridgerton and her flirting with the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé- Jean Page, who has since left the series.

Netflix has renewed Bridgerton, based on Quinn’s series of eight novels, for a third and fourth season.

The second season of the Regency-era romance scored 193 million hours of viewing worldwide, the most any English-language Netflix series has accumulated in its first three days.

Season two follows Anthony’s search for a wife

Simone, who plays Kate Sharma, noted that her relationship with Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey has had “a lot of push and pull” in the context of the plot between them being lovers’ enemies.

She told Deadline : “There are complications going on with the family and then they find each other at the end. I think things are just getting started.

“I would like to see Kate just loosen up a little more and play more in season three and swim in that circle of love together. I think both deserve it.”

Simone teased Kate’s backstory in season three, adding: “She’s currently in charge of the household chores and she has a big pair of boots to put on. I think she can do it.

“I wanted to keep that soft and vulnerable for Kate and she can share that with Anthony.

“I’m just happy for her to have a home and a family. I’m happy to see her grow. I think I’d like to see Kate be braver, less tough, and have a stronger heart.”

Simone went on to praise the show for the balancing act of Anthony, Kate and sister Edwina Sharma, played by Charithra Chandran, and for allowing “three love stories at once”.
