Brighton Boating Instructor injured during a meeting near Palace Pier

A JET ski instructor was taken to hospital after a collision at sea during a session.

During a proctored session by Brighton Boating, which is based at Brighton Marina, the instructor was on the boat instructing two people traveling on their own jet skis.

A Brighton Boating spokesman said: “Halfway through the session while the RIB was stationary our instructor spoke to one of the jet ski occupants who was also stationary.

“The other ski then went into the side of the RIB and threw the instructor into the water.

The Argos:

“The instructor called us on the VHF radio and we were immediately on site with another safety boat and three staff.

“We were there in minutes and secured the instructor while we waited for the lifeboat.

“At the same time, our staff were taking the customers back to Brighton Marina and they were then pre-screened by the ambulance crew and promptly discharged.

“En route to the incident we radioed the Solent Coast Guard who then coordinated the RNLI and dispatched the lifeboat.”

Brighton Boats said the instructor was taken to hospital with “severe bruises” but was discharged later in the evening.

The spokesman added: “We are very pleased that our instructor escaped with minor injuries and we also thank everyone who was present at the incident and helped.”

The Argos:

After the incident, there was some confusion among emergency services as to who was involved.

Brighton RNLI confirmed yesterday morning that the victim was a woman.

A spokeswoman said the lifeboat was called at 2.57pm to a report of “a collision involving two jet skis” south of Palace Pier and the crew found “a female victim in the water”.

She said: “Also at the scene was the City Council lifeguard patrol boat. A personal assessment was carried out.

“The lifeboat was then joined by a Lydd rescue helicopter, which lowered its paramedic and special equipment onto the lifeboat.

“The victim was then placed on the lifeboat and transported to Brighton Marina as Secamb [South East Coast Ambulance] took over.” Brighton Boating Instructor injured during a meeting near Palace Pier
