Brighton Christmas Market sees large crowds for the first weekend

The Christmas festival attracted a large number of customers in its first weekend.

The market, returning to its second year, officially opened to the public on Friday 18th November and helped get Brighton into the festive mood.

Those passing by the market were treated to a number of gift stalls, as well as live music, celebratory food and drink, and a Ferris wheel.

Beth from Brighton, who worked on one of the stalls at the market, said: “Everyone is in a really good mood. This year it’s much better because it’s nice and cozy.

“The Christmas market was so packed last night for the first weekend. It was really nice.”

The market near St Peter’s Church on York Place was opened by Mayor Lizzie Deane on Friday.

Organizer David Hills said: “We are delighted to be back for another year of Brighton Christmas Festival.”

This year the market features a range of traditional gift stalls, including woodwork and personalized Christmas tree decorations.

The event also included a virtual reality sleigh ride and celebratory food and drinks.

Visitors to the market on Sunday November 20 were accompanied by live Christmas carols while they ate mini pancakes and loaded fries and sipped a range of drinks including mulled wine and German craft beer.

Emily and Liam, both 19, said they thought the festival was “really lovely” and would be back later in the year.

Emily added, “It’s really cute and a little smaller than last year.”

Liam said: “We had some cheese and some mulled wine and we really like the music. We’ll go to the Ferris wheel later.”
