Brighton fans celebrate after beating Leeds 1-0

ALBION fans were in jubilation after a win over Leeds that briefly propelled them to the top of the Premier League.

Supporters packed the Amex for Saturday’s game against Leeds United, waving flags and donning Albion shirts and hats as they soaked up the last of the summer sun.

Albion extended their unbeaten streak in the Premier League to a club record nine games after a second-half goal from Pascal Gross gave the Seagulls three points.

The Seagulls’ 1-0 win propelled the team to the top of the Premier League, if only for a few minutes, after being pushed back after victories for Arsenal and Manchester City.

Albion are now fourth in the Premier League after four games.

However, Albion’s win was marred by multiple reports of homophobic abuse at the stadium.

Seagulls fans reported abuse from Leeds fans, both on Amex and on social media, and supporters on Twitter also accused them of spitting on people and urinating in public.

A police spokesman confirmed a number of incidents were being dealt with during the game, saying: “These incidents are being investigated in conjunction with football clubs Brighton and Hove Albion and Leeds United.”
