Brighton has been voted the UK’s most expensive car park

BRIGHTON tops the list of the most expensive beaches to park in the UK.

With a price of £32.95, the city ranked highest for all-day parking in peak season.

Second is Dornoch in Scotland at £24, followed by Abersoch in Wales (£20), Sandbanks (£17.80) and Ramsgate (£17.50).

Many of the priciest destinations are the south coast, with Camber Sands, Bournemouth and Looe all making the top ten.

The study, conducted by Scrap Car Comparison, examined parking costs in 167 coastal cities for the summer season (April 1 to October 31).

Brighton also ranked fourth in the list of most expensive hour-long beach breaks.

The city charges £5.95, beaten only by Woolacombe (£10), Formby (£7.50) and Blakeney (£6).

Of the 167 coastal cities surveyed, 26 had free beach parking.

Of the chargeable coastal locations, Lympstone, Devon is the cheapest place to park by the hour at just 40p.

Milford Haven in Wales has the cheapest daily parking rates, where beachgoers can leave their vehicle all day for £1.50.

Dan Gick, Managing Director of Scrap Car Comparison, said: “Summer is considered one of the best times of year for many drivers as the better weather makes driving much more enjoyable and the longer days and warmer temperatures make trips to the sea all the more enticing.

“However, parking costs should be considered before heading out as a day at the seaside combined with the other increasing costs of driving such as fuel can cost a lot more than expected.

“If you’re planning a day trip, why not team up with some other friends to split the cost, or try to find alternative transportation or parking to keep costs down.” Brighton has been voted the UK’s most expensive car park
