NETHERLANDS international Kjell Scherpen joins Vitesse Arnhem on a loan deal.

Goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts said: “This is a great opportunity for Kjell to develop and play regularly.

“He was called up to the Dutch senior team this summer and has a chance of regular time ahead of this year’s World Cup.

“We wish Kjell all the best for the upcoming season and will be monitoring his progress throughout the season working with Gordon Greer and the loan department.”

The 22-year-old, who is 1.88m tall, started his career in the Netherlands with second division side FC Emmen, where he made over 30 senior appearances before joining Ajax in July 2019.

At that point he was already starting for the Netherlands U21 for the first time, having also represented them at U19 level and making his debut against an English team of Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden in September 2018.

He made four first-team appearances for Ajax in the 2020/21 season, including one in the Europa League.

Kjell, who joined the club last summer, made his Albion debut in January 2022, starting with Albion’s FA Cup third round win at West Brom.

Later that month he joined Belgian club Oostende on loan for the second half of the season, where he made six league appearances.

After an injury to former Albion keeper Tim Krul, Scherpen was called up to the senior Netherlands team in June 2022.
