“Brighton is a run-down wreck these days”

AS I agree with Sean Fowler (Argus, July 11).

Under the Labour/Green councils, recycling rates have collapsed, park and ride has been shut down (unless Labor wants to hold their conference), weeds are growing on the pavements, there are depressingly regular industrial disputes with the bin men (dust people). ?) and hopelessly congested roads due to lane narrowing and empty bike lanes.

Instead of solving these problems, the council is wasting taxpayers’ money on ever narrower roads, painting a rainbow of colors on the road surface, putting bumps everywhere, issuing personal pronoun badges to staff, police, etc., torment themselves with Transgender rights and what constitutes “a woman”.

I look back fondly on the Brighton of my youth, when visitors could easily and happily drive past the beautiful Steine Gardens, enjoy the soothing gurgle of the beautiful fountains, conveniently park on Madeira Drive, join the many visiting coaches, stroll along the Atop the Madeira Arches and admire the prime green wall, take a stroll on either of the two piers.

Today the once beautiful gardens are a wasteland where hippie camps are occasionally held, the fountains are dry and derelict, Madeira Drive is a dead, useless bike lane where no one is allowed to park, the Madeira Arches are derelict and closed to pedestrians , the green wall has been demolished and one of the piers is a derelict wreck.
