Brighton legend Peter O’Sullivan thanks fans for their support

An ALBION legend has thanked people for their support while he was in and out of hospital.

Peter O’Sullivan collapsed at The Royal Sovereign pub in Shoreham at the end of June and was placed on life support with a brain haemorrhage at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Dubbed the ‘Welsh wizard’ by many, the 71-year-old made over 400 appearances for Albion between 1970 and 1981.

His partner Kim Moss filmed him recently and thanked everyone for the financial support to help care for him.

In the video, Peter, who lives in Shoreham, says: “This message is for you, my fans. As you know, I am a very proud man with dignity.

“I’m embarrassed at how things turned out. My brain trauma is being treated on an ongoing basis and the memory loss is proving extremely expensive.

“I thank each and every one of you for your generous donations to fund my ongoing therapy and care. I’m really overwhelmed.”

Kim told The Argus yesterday they are waiting for scan results to find out what type of dementia Peter has.

She added: “You can get head injuries from head injuries as an athlete, he definitely has dementia.

“But we’ll know in five weeks because the occupational therapist is testing his cognitive impairment to see what type of dementia it is.”

A family friend has launched a fundraiser which has raised more than £1,500 in just two days.

Grant Burberry, who launched the fundraiser, said: “Peter and his wife Kim have no immediate family in the Sussex area and the road to some sort of recovery – whatever that entails – is a long one , convoluted and possibly expensive .

“Peter played at a time when footballers earned an average wage, especially compared to today.

“By contributing to this page, you are helping in Sully’s recovery and allowing Kim to provide him with the practical support he so desperately needs.”
