Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with Juventus

We’ll probably never know as Roberto de Zerbi prepares for his first press conference at Lancing tomorrow.

But it’s a nice line to go into this new Albion era.

The 43-year-old from Brescia may be asked about reported interest from Sevilla and Juventus and is likely to play those questions with a forward defensive line straight from Hove.

But it shows the circles in which Albion moves.

The BBC today highlighted a story from The Times reporting that Juve are considering appointing De Zerbi ‘if they sack Max Allegri’ and wanted to hijack Albion’s move to ex-Shakhtar manager.

At the same time, Corrierie Dello Sport in Italy insisted Allegri’s job would not be in jeopardy during this international break.

They quote club boss Maurizio Arrivabene, but before the shock defeat against Monza: “A change of coach would be crazy. Problems have to be lived and seen 360°.”

But for de Zerbi to be mentioned in such circles is a testament to how widely respected he is.

La Gazzetta Dello Sport report today: “The challenge now is to repeat in Brighton those exceptional results achieved with both Sassuolo and Ukraine, in a team with many excellent players but no stars. The ones De Zerbi had neither in Sassuolo nor in Shakhtar.” Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with Juventus
