Brighton schools open ahead of Queen’s funeral announcement

The City Council has not been informed of any school closures following the Queen’s death.

The Argus understands all council-run schools in Brighton and Hove have remained open today.

The Department of Education emailed school leaders last night to say schools and colleges should remain open today.

Schools Weeks reported in the email that normal attendance is “expected” but “Heads retain the authority to approve student leave of absence in exceptional circumstances.”

Further guidance on possible school closures will be provided once a funeral date has been confirmed.

Her Majesty’s funeral is expected to take place in about 10 or 11 days.
