In the Legal & General survey, respondents were asked to select the words they most often associate with different British cities, including their own.
Respondents living in Brighton chose ‘vibrant’ (70 per cent) and ‘trendy’ (58 per cent) as the top words associated with their city
53 per cent of Brighton residents associate the city with food, compared to 24 per cent of all respondents
Brighton was voted the most peaceful city – 14 per cent of respondents described Brighton as peaceful, the highest of any other city
The words least associated with Brighton are rugby (six percent) and industrial (six percent).
Respondents also suggested other words they associate with Brighton – these were LGBTQ and Pier.
42 percent of those surveyed described the city as lively and 30 percent as friendly.
Legal & General also examined the varying levels of happiness among people living in the UK in their Rebuilding Britain Index report. The study finds that 69 per cent of Britons are happy with their surroundings – this proportion rose to 73 per cent among those in the South East.
The research found that people in the South West of England are the most satisfied with their surroundings (76 per cent of respondents).
