What is a red severe weather warning?

The Met Bureau issued a red weather warning when “dangerous weather is expected.”

When such a warning is issued, you should take steps to protect yourself and others from the effects of the storm if you have not already done so.

The Met Office is forecasting an exceptional heat spell for Monday and Tuesday, which will result in “widespread impacts on people and infrastructure”.

What weather warnings mean

Cabinet Office Secretary Kit Malthouse said the Government was preparing for a “surge” in demand for the NHS and other services due to the expected heatwave.

After chairing a meeting of Cobra’s Civil Emergencies Committee in Whitehall, Mr Malthouse urged the public to keep an eye out for people who are particularly vulnerable in the heat. Brighton weather: Met Office to announce time peaks for heatwaves on Saturday
