Brighton’s Adam Webster ready for a tough pre-season

Adam Webster is enjoying a tough preseason as he tries to make up for a stop-start 2021-22.

The Albion centre-back only started 16 Premier League games last season due to layoffs through injury.

He reported back for pre-season last year feeling fitter than ever but saw his campaign build-up being hampered by issues like Covid.

A similar fitness regimen was followed this summer and he enjoyed 45 minutes on Saturday as he came close to scoring in the 0-0 draw with Union St-Gilloise.

Webster said: “This year I want to pull off a good pre-season and really go from there.

“I think I’ve had my best seasons in football when I’ve had a strong pre-season.

“Of course I didn’t have a pre-season last year.

“I had eight or nine days before the first game of the season because of Covid and stuff like that.

“I’m really looking forward to having a full, proper preseason, getting strong, getting robust and hitting the ground running.”

Webster played on the left side of a three at USG.

He said: “I feel in a good place. It’s been a tough two weeks, tougher than we thought it could be.

“But it was all fun stuff, anything with the ball, football-based stuff, so it was good.

“I felt a bit rusty out there (Saturday).

“It was very hot and the sun was shining, you couldn’t really see much.

“It’s just about having minutes on the bench and taking each day as it comes.”

Webster is in high gear when he returns to training.

He said: “I got married this summer so it’s been a busy one. It flew by but it was a great summer, one I will never forget.” Brighton’s Adam Webster ready for a tough pre-season
