Brighton’s Evan Ferguson scores vital EURO goal for Republic

Evan Ferguson has achieved ‘a great finish’ to open his account for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s.

The Albion striker drove home to force a 1-1 draw with Israel in the first leg of a EURO qualifying play-off.

Helping them do so was an impressive performance from Aaron Connolly, the Albion forward on loan to Venezia.

Ireland manager Jim Crawford said: “It was a great finish from Evan. He’s been scoring goals like that in training all week and I’m not surprised.

“It was a difficult game for him. He needed time to get going but he had moments of pure class and we should be delighted with him.

“He’s only 17 and to score in such an important game for the U21s is fantastic, he has a brilliant attitude.” Brighton’s Evan Ferguson scores vital EURO goal for Republic
