Brighton’s pixie polite misses the final of Drag Race UK

A Brighton drag queen has missed out on a place in the final of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

This week’s challenge saw the BBC show’s five remaining contestants put their comedy skills to the test in a comedy roast where they were tasked with writing and performing their own material.

However, Pixie Polite, 29, from Brighton, faced a tough week and received lukewarm praise for her stand-up performance.

Expressing his disappointment at Pixie, RuPaul said: “I thought this is going to be an opportunity for you to really let go.

“You’re naturally funny and I didn’t realize it. I felt like you’re not yourself, your own natural comedy.”

Pixie placed in the bottom two for the second week in a row and was defeated by Black Peppa lip-syncing to Queen’s Another One Bites The Dust.

As she exited the competition, Pixie said, “I’m so happy I made it this far in the competition. I couldn’t have asked for more before coming here.

“I’m disappointed I didn’t make it to the end and at that very last moment but they were all fabulous.

“There are a lot of positive things to take away from this experience and I think I’m going to be a very different pixie going forward and I’m happy about that.”

Pixie also said she’s proud of her looks on the runway throughout the season, which have been about either body confidence or a personal tribute to family.

“I wanted to show that plus-size people could deliver fashion and fun on the runway, and I think I succeeded,” she said.

Pixie has the best record of any Brighton drag queen to appear on the show, with two previous contestants from the city both struggling.

Joe Black, the first Brighton drag queen to appear on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, was originally eliminated in the first week of series two.

After another contestant contracted Covid, Joe returned to the competition – only to be eliminated in eighth place that same week.

Anubis, who competed in the final series of the show, finished last after being eliminated in the first week.

After surviving the first week of the competition, Pixie Polite announced that she had overcome the show’s “Brighton Curse”.

The finale of this series of the show, starring Black Peppa, Cheddar Gorgeous, Danny Beard and Jonbers Blonde, airs next Thursday at 9pm on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Brighton’s pixie polite misses the final of Drag Race UK
