A Briton has been found guilty of killing a 21-year-old club promoter in a drunken attack in Ibiza.

Mitchell Andrew Loveridge was found guilty of manslaughter after killing fellow countryman Harry Kingsland.

The 26-year-old was acquitted of the murder of Harry, of Solihull, Birmingham, during today’s trial.

Loveridge took the witness stand on the first day of the trial to insist that he had punched Harry in “self-defense” when the attack took place on July 18, 2018.

The incident happened during a drunken altercation at an apartment in Ibiza’s party resort of San Antonio, after Harry reportedly tried to break up a dispute between Loveridge and another Brit.

Loveridge also denied attacking Harry again while he was convulsing on the floor.

Prosecutors claimed during their opening statements that Loveridge mercilessly attacked Harry as he lay on the floor after being knocked unconscious with a blow to the head.

They continued it came after Harry tried to stop Loveridge from rowing with another Brit.

Loveridge then allegedly jumped from the second floor apartment after fatally injuring Harry, but was arrested and held in prison in Spain for more than six months before being released on bail on January 30, 2019.

He was briefly remanded in custody again last year but was released before the trial began on Monday.

Before the trial began, prosecutors sought an 18-year sentence for Loveridge, and private attorneys working for Harry’s grieving parents had said they wanted him jailed for 25 years if convicted of murder.

After being convicted of manslaughter, sentencing was postponed to a later date.

A prosecutor and a private attorney acting on behalf of Harry’s family said they were seeking a four-year sentence for Loveridge, from Rhondda, Wales.

The defense asked the judge to sentence Loveridge to one year in prison. The verdict is announced in writing and not in public as is usual in Spain.

At the end of the lawyers’ closing statements on Wednesday, Loveridge took the stand again to apologize to his victim’s parents for what happened.
