A British woman who was raped while on holiday in Crete has accused police of letting the rapist “walk free” while falsely accusing her father of the assault.

The 33-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claimed Greek police charged her 62-year-old father with the assault, even though he did not commit the crime.

Local police said the father made rough gestures towards his daughter at a bar where they had been drinking before slapping her in the face and dragging her from the venue.

He then took her to a secluded beach and raped her, police officers said.

The accused was arrested on Saturday and appeared in court yesterday.

However, the rape victim did said the Mail Online how her father was actually back at her hotel at the time of the attack.

She was “100% confident” that CCTV evidence and DNA samples collected from the couple would clear his name.

There was “no way” her father would do anything that disgusting, she said, although she had no luck getting Greek police to acknowledge her claims.

She and her father were now awaiting the results of their father’s DNA test, which they believed would lead to his release.

“This is an incredibly stressful, traumatic situation, but there is hope for us,” she said.

The woman went to police last Thursday after the incident to report that she had been raped.

Police later said the woman, who admitted she was drunk at the time, could not remember anything about her attacker other than his clothes, which she said were all white.

Officials claim they collected CCTV evidence showing the woman’s father, dressed all in white, beat her before sexually assaulting her.

However, the victim said officers misunderstood.

Her father wasn’t the attacker, she said, and he wasn’t dressed all in white either.

When all the CCTV evidence was gathered, the woman said it would show he was back at the hotel when she was attacked.

While she gave police a description of her attacker, she claimed they did nothing to locate him.

While she said it was clear police believed her father was guilty, she was confident the DNA results would clear his name.

“I can’t wait for them to come because I want to return to the UK as soon as possible,” she added.

On Tuesday, the man appeared in court in Crete’s capital, Heraklion, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence.

He told the judge he could “never” rape his own daughter and was “not guilty.”

However, the accused has been remanded in custody and according to Greek law, his trial is now scheduled to take place within the next 18 months.

His daughter will remain on the island of Crete until the case is resolved, she said.

She added: “I’ll just go home with him. My mind is all messed up right now and I can’t even think straight.”

Once the case is settled, she said she will tell her story of how she and her father were treated by the Greek authorities.

She said it was “shameful” what officers did to her father while allowing the man who raped her to walk free.

Coroners told local newspaper Neakriti that the woman was “covered” with injuries that matched tree branches and rocks found on the beach.

Her injuries were consistent with a rape, they added, adding that DNA samples had been collected.

In her initial complaint to police, the woman said an unidentified man stopped and raped her in a narrow street in the early hours of last Thursday morning.

The crime scene was near a bar where she had previously been drinking with her father, she said.
