A British Conservative MP was found guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy in 2008.
That’s what the jury at Southwark Crown Court heard Imran Ahmad Khan fondled the boy in a bunk bed at a Staffordshire house party after forcing him to drink gin and tonic and asking him to look at pornography.
Khan, 48, was elected the seat of Wakefield in Yorkshire in 2019.
The victim reported the attack to the police at the time, but decided not to pursue it further until he learned that Khan was running for parliament.
The victim, now 29, told the court he was “not taken very seriously” when he made the allegation to the Conservative Party’s press office days before the 2019 general election. He told a jury he felt “terrified, vulnerable, stunned, shocked and surprised” after Khan touched him.
Khan denied the charges and claimed he only touched the boy’s elbow when he became “extremely upset” after a conversation about his confused sexuality.
The ruling raises the prospect of a wakefield by-election, a seat the Labor Party held for more than 70 years before changing hands in 2019.
The opposition Labor Party called for Khan’s immediate resignation as MP.
Khan will be sentenced at a date to be determined.
