British girl who inspired the first Disney princess with glasses is invited to Baftas

A British schoolgirl who wrote to Disney asking for glasses for the princess was invited by Encanto director Jared Bush to present the Bafta Awards.

owri Moore, 12, from Chilwell, Nottinghamshire, made a claim to the entertainment giant when she was 9, she’s worn glasses all her life, but became disillusioned when she received no response.

However, Encanto director Bush received her letter and kept it, but was unable to tell her that the film’s protagonist had to wear glasses.

Speaking to Lowri on BBC Breakfast on Wednesday, Bush said: “I think she knows her as my hero, I couldn’t have imagined at that age and being so brave.

“I think the biggest thing I want to say is, it turns out, as you mentioned, I could be in the UK this weekend, and I was wondering, Lowri, if you might be interested in having Can join me and the other filmmakers at the Bafta Awards? ”

Lowri and her mother, Cyrilyn Moore, were completely speechless but nodded vigorously before host Jon Kay stepped in and said, “I think that’s in agreement.”

When asked by Sally Nugent if there would be a red carpet at the event, Bush said: “I think the most important thing is that I’m excited to meet you in person.

“I’ll tell you all the Disney secrets I couldn’t tell you, but now I’ll whisper them all, and no one can stop me.”

Lowri tried to thank Bush as she became overwhelmed with emotion.

Video of the day

Her mother held back tears as she thanked the film director and said, “That’s like what dreams are made of, isn’t it? Really beautiful. ”

Encanto tells the story of Mirabel Madrigal, a young girl with glasses who lives in a magical community but has no apparent powers of her own.

Although she has no gift, when the village of Encanto is threatened and its magic is in danger, it falls into her hands to save the day.

Lowri and Bush had previously spoken in early February when Bush was interviewed on BBC Radio Nottingham by phone from the US.
