Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian leaders “reflect” the fascism of Nazi Germany, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said Monday in a speech at the National Army Museum in London.

Shared with in comments British mediaWallace will say that the Russian leadership should share the same fate as the Nazis who ended up facing the Nuremberg trials for their atrocities.

“By invading Ukraine, Putin, his inner circle and his generals are now mirroring the fascism and tyranny of 70 years ago and repeating the mistakes of the totalitarian regimes of the last century,” Wallace said in his speech. And for that, “their destiny must ultimately be the same.”

In his speech, Wallace will also denounce senior Russian officers for being so incompetent that they should be brought to justice.

“Let us evoke the absurdity of Russian generals—radiant in their neat dress uniforms and dejected by their many medals—that they are wholly complicit in Putin’s hijacking of their ancestors’ proud history of defense against a ruthless invasion; the defense against fascism; to sacrifice yourself for a higher purpose,” Wallace is likely to say. “Not only are they involved in an illegal invasion and war crimes, but their top brass have failed their own base to the point that they should be court-martialed.”

The defense minister’s speech comes as Russia marks Victory Day on Monday, an annual commemoration of Nazi Germany’s defeat in 1945. Putin is expected to deliver a closely watched speech, likely referring to the ongoing war in Ukraine will focus.

On Sunday Britain said it would offer Ukraine further aid and military support worth £1.3 billion to step up its commitment to defending the country against Russia.
