Britney Spears’ ex-husband released from prison after appearing in court

Britney Spears’ ex-husband has been released from Napa County jail after appearing in court to face two counts in connection with a burglary in 2015.

ason Alexander, 40, has been charged with an incident in which he stole a $2,000 (£1,650) bracelet from a woman he was renting in Napa County.

He faces charges of grand theft and buying/selling stolen property.

Alexander virtually appeared in Napa County Superior Court, in California, on Wednesday.

He wore a blue jumpsuit and mask, but didn’t make any pleas.

He only spoke to confirm his name and accept court-appointed representation.

Sang Nguyen, representing Mr. Alexander, said that Alexander poses no risk to flying because he is not “hard to find”.

“I don’t think it’s a mystery that when Mr. Alexander was known, his name was in the papers,” he said.

“It’s not as if he’s a hard person to find.”

A spokesman for the Napa County Sheriff’s Department earlier confirmed to the PA news agency that Alexander was transferred to the Napa County jail on Tuesday, after serving time in Ventura County.

Judge Mark Boessenecker approved Alexander’s release and set the plea date as September 13.

Alexander was previously convicted in a Ventura court of trespassing and battery charges after attempting to disrupt Ms Spears’ wedding to Sam Asghari last month.

PA understands that after serving his sentence, authorities from Napa County requested that his release be halted so that he could be collected by officers – about a ten-hour drive.

Henry Wofford, a spokesman for the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, told PA the crime was committed in 2015, after Alexander rented the room from a woman in American Canyon, in Napa County.

“She has a room to rent and she is looking for a tenant. A friend recommended Mr. Alexander,” he said.

“Mr Alexander moved there and within the first month of living there, the landlord realized her $2,000 bracelet was missing in her bedroom.

“She asked Mr. Alexander if he stole the bracelet, he said no and eventually moved out.

“She contacted him again and Alexander admitted that he had stolen her bracelet and that he had pawn it at a local pawn shop.”

Mr Wofford added that the woman had been unsuccessful in getting her bracelet back from the pawn shop.

By the time the report was filed in 2016, he was out of state.

Alexander was previously ordered to spend 128 days in prison in Ventura County after being convicted of misdemeanors at Ms. Spears’ address.

He was not found guilty of the felony stalking and did not commit a lesser crime of vandalism.

Alexander was Spears’ first husband and they were married for less than three days in 2004 before being annulled. Britney Spears’ ex-husband released from prison after appearing in court
