A British holidaymaker has been arrested after allegedly hitting his partner on the head with a bottle during an argument at Ibiza Airport.
The 26-year-old had just arrived on the holiday island on an overnight flight from the UK on Saturday night when he allegedly attacked his partner, believed to be a 28-year-old British woman.
He was held at the airport terminal door after members of a flight crew who were leaving the area alerted police to the attack.
According to local reports, police arrived at the scene and found the victim of the attack injured on the ground with her belongings scattered on the ground.
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil confirmed: “We have taken a 26-year-old Briton into custody on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend.
“Witnesses said they saw him hit her over the head with a bottle.
“He took an aggressive stance towards the police who responded to the alarm and had to be subdued before he was handcuffed.”
It was not immediately clear on Tuesday morning whether the British woman needed hospital treatment after the incident.
It was not known if she decided to press charges after her partner was dragged before a judge to decide what further action to take.
A police source said: “The alleged attacker spent the first night of his holiday in a police cell before being brought to justice.”
Court officials could not be reached early Tuesday morning for comment on the incident.
