A Brit who was pronounced dead after being beaten up by a gang in Spain and thrown off a cliff has sent a thank you message from hospital.
Steen Nodwell, 29, from Weston-super-Mare, was on holiday with friends in the seaside town of Salou when he was chased by a group of men, his family say.
The father-of-three says he was then attacked and thrown off a cliff – and sustained horrific injuries. Steen had to drag himself out of a “crevice” to get help before being taken to hospital for treatment.
After a flood of support and donations, he has now sent a message from the hospital thanking everyone but saying recovery “with two broken arms” will be difficult, he reports Liverpool echo.

Steen wrote an emotional thank you to people for their support earlier this week. Speaking on Facebook, he said: “I just want to say a quick thank you to everyone who has helped anyway and continues to do so.
“I am eternally grateful that it took a lot of heart to lift me from the crevasse of this mountain. I think all your heart was with me!
“It makes me so emotional just to hear you guys are doing a few things, thank you very much. I haven’t even started my recovery yet and the truth is it’s not easy writing this with two broken arms, but I felt like sending a little thank you note. Many Thanks.”
His sister Bethan told how he was stranded in a Spanish hospital in the nearby town of Tarragon and required multiple surgeries.

On a GoFundMe page, she says, “Hi, I’m Bethan.
“This fundraiser will benefit my brother who was left to die while on holiday in Spain.
“Steen is a strong and determined man and this incident shows that.
“A band of local men chased my brother and after brutally attacking him, they threw him off a cliff.
“It was only through sheer determination and courage that my brother was able to get up and get help despite his life-threatening injuries.

“Had he not done so, the outcome could have been tragically different.”
Pictures show the brutal injuries Steen suffered, including two broken arms, a broken jaw and serious wounds on his body.
According to the fundraiser, Steen was almost killed in the attack.
She added: “These men tried to kill my brother and now we need your help.
“Steen has two broken arms, one of which is a compound fracture, a broken jaw, a fractured eye socket and skull, a shattered cheekbone, internal injuries and more.
“Steen cannot fly home due to his injuries and will not be able to fly (nor fly low) for over a year.
“It’s a more than 18-hour drive, expected to be done in a car. We need to raise funds to find suitable medical assistance trips.
“Not only that, Steen needs help and support from his family who needs to be with him.
“This means that travel costs will soon increase.

“Whether you help with a penny or a pound, every little helps. Or even a part of this fundraiser. Our family appreciates all of this.
“Anyone who knows my brother knows his strong character, I have no doubt he will handle that better than anyone I know.
“But let’s make it as comfortable as possible. Many Thanks.”
