Bryan Adams has revealed the first reaction he got when he heard the hit I Do It For You (My Everything) I Do It For You was BOOOOO.
He recorded the power ballad for the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but the film’s producers hated it.
Adams, 62, said: “If you go to the movies, you notice the song doesn’t come on until this huge, huge score happens and the Dolby sign starts coming up and it says ‘end’. end’.
“So they weren’t happy with it – but they were very happy with what happened with it afterwards.”
And that’s understandable because the song has become one of the best-selling singles of all time, selling over 15 million copies and staying at No1 on the UK charts for a record 16 consecutive weeks.
The Canadian singer-songwriter told the Rockonteurs podcast that the film’s bosses wanted to rename the song “I’ll Die For You,” but he refused and persisted.

“Nobody really liked the song at the studio,” he said. They tried to ask me to change the name of the song to ‘I’ll Die For You’.
“I said, ‘No, I haven’t changed at all. If you don’t like it, too bad’. ”
He also revealed that the song co-written by Michael Kamen and Robert Lange took less than an hour to write.
“From the moment we started it to the time we finished the whole setup, it was about 45 minutes,” he said. It just happened.”
The film with Kevin Costner as Robin Hood was a resounding success, grossing £310 million at the box office.
