Budget 2023 Treasury Secretary Paschal Donohoe pours cold water on a possible extension of the 9% VAT rate for the hospitality industry

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe threw cold water on Tánaiste Leo Varadkar’s proposal earlier this week that the 9 percent sales tax rate on hospitality could be extended beyond February next year.

At his peak while attending a “budget collapse” at Wexford, the minister also stressed that the move to bring the industry back to a 13.5 per cent VAT rate was in no way related to his “disappointment” at perceived price gouging in the industry during related to the summer season.
