Buildings on University of Brighton campus evacuated due to fire

FIREFIGHTERS attended the scene after a fire broke out in a university building and it had to be evacuated.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue were first made aware of the incident at the University of Brighton around 1.35pm yesterday afternoon.

The fire is said to have started in a building between the Cockcroft and Watts buildings on Lewes Road.

A spokesman for ESFR said: “The building has been evacuated due to a fire on the third floor.

“We used four appliances as well as the ARP and the control unit.

“We were assisted by West Sussex Fire and Rescue who sent equipment from Shoreham and Worthing.

“We used breathing apparatus and CO2 fire extinguishers to fight the fire that broke out in the third floor technical room.

“There were no injuries.”
