“Bunny Hop” student claimed Gardaí poisoned him on the ward

A BUSINESS student who smeared blood around a cell and began “line-up” claimed he was poisoned by Gardaí, a court heard.

Risitot Tambidila, 25, claimed he “lost his strength” after drinking a glass of water given to him by Gardaí.

A Garda witness said Tambidila was doing bunny hops in his cell, dancing up and down and repeatedly saying “oh yes”.

Judge David McHugh found Tambidila guilty of public order offenses and sentenced him to four months in prison.

The judge also imposed a separate four-month sentence suspended for two years.

The defendant from Mac Uilliam Parade in Tallaght and Church Street in Portlaoise was found guilty of threatening and abusive conduct, resisting arrest and criminal damage.

Garda Kieran Murray told the Blanchardstown District Court he was called to the Red Cow Luas stop on March 31, 2021 following reports of an aggressive man.

Gda Murray said Tambidila told him: “F*ck yous, f*ck yous, this is my country, not yours”.

He was asked to leave the area but refused. Gda Murray went to arrest the accused, who resisted arrest, struggling and waving his arms.

The pair fell to the ground and Tambidila yelled, “You’re not fucking arresting me.”

Gda Murray said Tambidila was handcuffed and taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station.

In the station, Tambidila was extremely aggressive and tried to hit Gardaí.

He was taken to a cell where he smeared blood on the walls and doors.

Garda Stephen Broderick said Tambidila tore up an indictment and said ‘tear it up or burn it, I don’t care’.

He also said “I’ll crush you, fuck you motherfucker”.

Gda Broderick said Tambidila laughed uncontrollably, danced and pretended to smoke in his cell.

In his statement, Tambidila claimed he suffered severe nosebleeds after Gardaí gave him a glass of water.

He claimed he “lost his strength” and “started” after drinking the poisoned water.

He also said he was “having a bad day” and that he just wanted to take the bus home.

Judge McHugh said it was one of the most serious public order incidents he had seen in 14 years at the bench.
