A house has collapsed, prompting the evacuation of several properties as one person was taken to hospital.

Burnley Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue are on site on Sefton Terrace.

A person rescued by neighbors was taken to the hospital. Her condition is currently unknown.

Authorities have asked people to avoid the area while continuing with their work.

What caused the explosion is unclear.

This is a mainly residential area not far from Burnley Manchester Road train station.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue tweeted: “We are currently dealing with an explosion at a house in Sefton Terrace, Burnley.

“One person was rescued by neighbors and taken to hospital.

“Please avoid the area around Sefton Terrace and Piccadilly Road.

“We have three fire engines and our city search and rescue team on site.

“We are working with the other emergency services, local authorities and utilities to make the scene safe and to assess the structure of the property.”

Burnley Police tweeted: “Please note we are currently dealing with a house collapse on Sefton Terrace, in #burnley.

“Emergency services are on site and several properties have been evacuated. We are asking people to avoid the area around Piccadilly Road and Sefton Terrace. Many Thanks.”
