Buyers slam ‘radical’ artworks in city centers as ‘complete waste of money’

Warwickshire County Council has placed “radical” artworks in town centers such as Nuneaton and Bedworth, which some buyers have called “a complete waste of money”.

New “radical” artwork in city centers has been branded a “complete waste of money”, with one person saying it looks like “a fence knocked down by vandals”.
Others have called the new structures in Nuneaton and Bedworth town centers “eyesorees,” they reported CoventryLive.
Warwickshire County Council has backed the £350,000 Street Interventions project, which aims to breathe new life into the areas.
But their performances at Church Street, Nuneaton and All Saints Square in Bedworth have drawn amused comment.
Many people have taken to social media to voice their opinions – including many who have vented their irritation.
They’re two of seven installations across the county, meaning that if each is of equal value, they cost £50,000 each.
Borough Council said the Warwickshire-wide project was a “radical step” to revitalize the use of public spaces such as town centers and parks in the wake of the pandemic.
But not everyone agrees with questions about the project’s spending.
One person wrote that the structures would quickly fall apart.
“Give him a week for the angle grinder to come out because some Wally falls off it and it’s declared dangerous. Nobody asked for it. A complete waste of money,” he said.
Another said: “It would have been better to use natural materials that are more environment-friendly than what looks like polluting plastic. Agree, it looks like a children’s playground!”
And there were plenty of people who felt the money could have been better spent.
“Almost 350 grand for this eyesore and there are elderly people in the area who are struggling to turn on their hot water because of this energy crisis.
Another wrote: “Well what else could we wish for. Not that we need deals or anything.”
One user agreed, saying: “I could have spent money on garbage disposal and tidying up flower beds.
As for the Bedworth art installation, one person claimed, “Looks like a fence that was knocked down by vandals.”
And another person wrote: “Money could have been better spent like the condition of the pavement in Bedworth and a better property contract than Glendale than Bedworth, a mess of ova (sic) grown bush grass etc.
The Mirror has reached out to Warwickshire County Council for comment.
