By the way, this week’s episode of HBO’s The Last of Us was the “Happy Episode.”

Why are we still here? only suffer?

We’re only three episodes into HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us, but so far they’ve all been bangers. This week we got a deeper look into Bill and Frank’s relationship, a dynamic that unfortunately went largely unexplored in the original game. The pair quickly became adorable and it has certainly been heartwarming to see how their relationship has unfolded from start to finish.

In usual TLOU fashion, it was also absolutely heartbreaking as it ultimately ends with both of them dying. Granted, they had the luxury of choosing how they went out, but it was still sad.

Game director Neil Druckmann quickly took to Twitter after the episode aired to jokingly ask why everyone was crying before making a hilarious tongue-in-cheek comment: “That was the happy episode!”

If you’ve played the game, you know what’s to come. We still have Sam and Henry, not to mention the content from the Left Behind DLC. There’s a lot more suffering to go through, and when you think about it, Bill and Frank seem, on the whole, to have gotten off easy.

The Last of Us is now airing on HBO.
