Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is finally getting the release date – but fans are confused

CALL of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is coming in October, just in time for Christmas.

The blockbuster shooter was teased back in February but finally has a release date.

Activision will release the game on October 28, 2022.

It is being developed by Infinity Ward and is a direct sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.

The game will be the 19th title in the Call of Duty mainline series and follows some fan-favorite characters.

Returning to the series are Captain John Price, Sergeant Kyle “Gaz”, Lieutenant Simon “Ghost” Riley and the legendary Sergeant John MacTavish – better known as Soap.

CIA station chief Kate Laswell will also return.

But fans got confused by the game.

That’s because Infinity Ward released a game called Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 back in 2009.

The name of the new game is actually Call of Duty Modern Warfare II.

But that hasn’t stopped players from grappling with the title.

One Twitter fan wrote, “I’ve always hated it when reboot sequels have the same name as game sequels in the original franchise.”

They added: “It’s confusing. Actual airplane mode brain.”

Another moaned, “I can’t believe there are literally two games with the same characters and the exact same name but are completely different games.”

And one said, “Don’t know why they should call it Modern Warfare 2 when there was already one.”

The original Modern Warfare 2 came out back in 2009 and was also developed by Infinity Ward.

It is one of the most popular games in the series and is praised for its immersive campaign and multiplayer.
