Rumor Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 – slated to be the franchise’s 2022 release – is said to have entered its initial alpha phase, with the game seemingly being developed by 11 different studios.
Activision Blizzard has yet to confirm that a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 will be released this year but some reports from September said this would be the case.
According to Tom Henderson, who first reported on the existence of Modern Warfare 2, three Infinity Ward studios are working on the game along with Treyarch, Activision, Raven, Sledgehammer, Demonware, High Moon Studios, Toys for Bob, and Beenox.
In one YouTube Videos (Discovered Dualshockers), Henderson said: “[The large number of studios involved] not a big cause for concern as the majority of these studios have had some engagement over the past few years for each Call of Duty title. From everything that I’ve heard regarding Modern Warfare 2, everything is working smoothly.
“Some developers have even suggested that the current build of Modern Warfare is in alpha. By all my own accounts, I think this is the first time I’ve heard of the Call of Duty title being in the alpha stage.”
Henderson also said he’s seen footage of Modern Warfare 2 and “the game looks really good [into] its development stage. “
The game will include a campaign involving US special forces against Colombian drug cartels and internally codenamed Project Cortez.

IGN calls Call of Duty: Modern Warfare “awesome”, said that “the diverse game modes and excellent gunplay show that the series is moving in a promising direction.” The game also performed well commercially, broke many sales records when it’s released.
The upcoming release, if official, is not to be confused with the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 which was released in 2009 and is Renovated in 2020. Infinity Ward’s 2019 Call of Duty rebooted the Modern Warfare franchise, and the studio is leading once again on the franchise’s three-year development cycle.
After that news Xbox plans to acquire Activision BlizzardCall of Duty’s 2022 entry will probably be one of three reported entries in the series released as a cross-platform game, then Xbox could make the series a first-party exclusive. The time frame for that may be longer than expected, with reports that Activision may drop the series’ annual releases.
