Call of the Sea Developer Unveils Truman Show-Like Game, American Arcadia

Call of the Sea developer Out of the Blue has unveiled American Arcadia, a 70’s retro-futuristic game that promises to mix 2.5D platforming and first-person puzzles.

The game has a Truman Show-like concept where an entire metropolis is unwittingly part of a 24/7 TV show – and those who fall out of favor with the viewer are killed. The story follows Trevor Hills, whose uninteresting life is interrupted by a mysterious voice who appears to be helping him escape backstage.

Players will take on the role of two characters – presumably Trevor and his guiding voice – one playing in a 2.5D platform game full of chases and the other in a first-person puzzle game involving hacking, exploration and stealth.

The voice cast consists of well-known video game names, including Yuri Lowenthal (Spider-Man), Krizia Bajos (Cyberpunk 2077) and Cissy Jones (Firewatch, Call of the Sea).

We’ll learn more about American Arcadia later this year at Summer Game Fest, and it’s also part of the Tribeca Game Festival line-up.

The game marks the second collaboration between Out of the Blue and publisher Raw Fury, following Call of the Sea, the first-person puzzler that we gave a 9/10 rating in 2020. We called Call of the Sea “a great tribute to the films and games that inspired it” and said it was “an entertaining yet emotionally touching adventure”.
