Call the Midwife: Dr Turner injured in train crash

Call The Midwife’s Stephen McGann said he was “crazy in love” with the BBC hit writer the moment he first met her.

The 59-year-old actor, who plays Doctor Patrick Turner on the show, is married to the show’s creator and producer, Heidi Thomas, also 59.

However, despite their connection to the much-loved series – the happy couple actually met 30 years ago.

Sparks flew between the pair during a script reading in Liverpool in the mid-1980s and Stephen admitted that for him it was ‘lightning love’.

Talking about their first meeting, the actor said he was “crazy in love” with the talented producer just minutes after he first met her.

The star explained that the couple had lost contact after the meeting, but thankfully ran into each other later in a hotel in Liverpool.

“I think the writer [of the play] maybe around 48 years old and gray soon, but I walked into the audition and there was this young lady talking from five hundred to ten,” Stephen said. Sunday Times.

“We started chatting about the character and by the time I left the room, I was madly in love.”

Stephen admits he thought lightning love was a “nonsense” theory – until it happened to him.

The couple married in 1998 and share a son, Dominic.

Heidi previously told Good Housekeeping: “There are certain similarities [between McGann and Dr Turner] – for example, he is very gifted with origami and I have written his origami talent in previous volumes.

“So sometimes it’s a little hard to see where my husband Stephen McGann and Dr. Turner come from!”

She also joked: “But there are other things that aren’t remotely the same, for example, Steve can’t do clamp delivery.”

Stephen often pays tribute to Heidi on social media, praising her for her heartbreaking stories about the much-loved show.

After a particularly emotional episode last year that addressed the struggles of the LGBTQ+ community at the time, Stephen said: “I loved that episode.

Helen George meets her soulmate on the show

“It was written by Heidi, with all her heart and soul. I love my other half for her ingenuity, kindness and courage to the ends of the earth xxxx.”

Call The Midwife is known for the romances of her co-stars, including actresses Helen George and Jack Ashton, who began dating after meeting on set.

Helen, who played Trixie Franklin, met Jack, who is best known for playing Rev. Tom Hereward while filming the 2016 Christmas special of BBC movie series.

The couple are now proud parents to daughters, Wren Ivy, four, and Lark, born in November.

After revealing the tot’s name on Instagram, Helen joked: “Our second little bird. This is Lark. We should probably stop there so we don’t end up with a Goose.”

Following the recent end of season 11 of Call The Midwife, fans will be pleased to know the series has been relaunched by the BBC for season 12 (2023) and season 13 (2024).
