Goals from Cameron McJannet and Will Patching gave Derry City a win over Finn Harps as Ruaidhrí Higgins’ side regained a six-point lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.
In front of a lively Ballybofey crowd, McJannet planted a header past Mark Anthony McGinley in the 23rd minute when Brandon Kavanagh executed the corner kick.
McGinley was the buiser of the two goalies and was tested twice by Mattie Smith in the third quarter. But with Derry not contributing to their first-half goal, Harps were never out of contention. Barry McNamee flicked a ball into the box in the 72nd minute and Dave Webster was unlucky when his inventive header hit the bar from behind.
In the 88th minute, Patching’s free-kick went into the River End net after a deflection by Barry McNamee. Filip Mihaljevic scored his first goal for Harps from the penalty spot in the 92nd minute after Ciaran Coll fouled the Croatian to stop the home fans heading to the exit gates.
