Capitol Records creates a new label division in Italy, led by Daniele Menci

Capitol Records has partnered with Universal Music Italy to create Capitol Records Italy – a new division of UMG’s own label.

The move will result in Italy-based Polydor being renamed Capitol Records Italy, effective immediately.

Polydor’s artist roster will continue to work with the rebranded label.

The label will continue to operate under the direction of Daniele Menci, director of Capitol Records.

Capitol Records’ expansion into the 10th largest recorded market follows a year in which recorded revenues in Italy grew 27.8% to US$392.4 million (€332 million).

According to statistics released by FIMI in January, every album in the top 20 of the country’s domestic albums chart for all of 2021 came from a local artist.

Capitol Records has been home to some of the world’s most famous artists including The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Nat “King” Cole, Peggy Lee, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Sinatra and more.

Capitol artists today include Beck, Halsey, Paul McCartney, Katy Perry and Sam Smith.

The launch of the Italy-based division follows Michelle Jubelirer’s recent promotion to Chair and CEO of Capitol Music Group (CMG).

“We are thrilled that our partner in Italy will be renamed Capitol Records Italy.”
