Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA megastar LeBron James, suffered cardiac arrest in July due to a congenital heart defect, his family said in a statement Friday.
“It is an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect that can and will be treated.” the family statement said. “We are very confident that Bronny will make a full recovery and return to basketball soon. We will continue to keep the media informed and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”
James, 18, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on July 24 after experiencing a medical emergency during a training session there University of Southern California. He was discharged from the hospital later that week.
The teenager had signed on to play at USC in May. He is considered one of the best point guards at the high school level and has been ranked as the best point guard 19. LeBron James previously thanked the public for supporting Bronny.
“We feel you and I’m so grateful,” said the Los Angeles Lakers star tweeted on July 27th. “Everyone is doing great. We have our family together, safe and sound, and we feel your love.”
