Cardiac arrest in Bronny James from underlying heart failure

Bronny James, the eldest son of NBA megastar LeBron James, suffered cardiac arrest in July due to a congenital heart defect, his family said in a statement Friday.

“It is an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect that can and will be treated.” the family statement said. “We are very confident that Bronny will make a full recovery and return to basketball soon. We will continue to keep the media informed and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”

James, 18, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on July 24 after experiencing a medical emergency during a training session there University of Southern California. He was discharged from the hospital later that week.
