Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announces the financial plan today

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will make a statement today and bring forward action medium-term financial planning that will support “fiscal sustainability,” the Treasury Department has said.

In the statement, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the Chancellor would accelerate the plans after talks with the Chancellor prime minister over the weekend.

The plans will be released in full on Monday 31 October.

The statement also said Hunt also met with him Governor of the Bank of England and the head of the Debt Management Office on Sunday evening to update them on the plans.

It said: “This follows the Prime Minister’s statement on Friday and further talks between the Prime Minister and Chancellor over the weekend to ensure sustainable public finances underpin economic growth.”

Ask Liz Truss to resign

This comes as prime minister Liz Truss faced resignation calls over the weekend.

Crispin Blunt, Andrew Bridgen and Jamie Wallis all called on the prime minister to step down on Sunday, while other senior figures within the parliamentary party expressed unease with her leadership.

Over the weekend, Hunt insisted Truss was still in charge despite diagnosing the need for a tough package of tax hikes and spending cuts to stabilize Britain’s economy. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announces the financial plan today
