Channel 5 reveals Neighbors stars returning for final episode of soap opera

Channel 5 has announced that the actors are returning to Neighbors for the show’s series finale “to celebrate the most memorable characters from many eras”.

In August’s final episode of Neighbors, fan favorites from its 37-year history return to the dead-end community of Ramsay Street to bid the soap farewell.

The Australian soap opera first aired in 1985 and follows the lives of the people who live and work in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough.

Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who starred as ’80s power couple Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell, were previously announced as returning to the show.

They are joined by Peter O’Brien, who appeared as Shane Ramsay in the first episode of the series, Ian Smith, who played Harold Bishop, Mark Little as Joe Mangel, and Paul Keane, who played Des Clarke.

Smith said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be back.

“I am the greatest sook under the sun.

“I’m going to shock on the last night Neighbors airs.

“It will truly be the end of an era and I’m so proud to have been a part of it.”

Recurring stars of the ’90s include Daniel MacPherson who played Joel Samuels, Benjamin McNair as Malcolm Kennedy, Melissa Bell who played Lucy Robinson and Lesley Baker as Angie Rebecchi.

MacPherson said: “When I joined Neighbors at the age of 17, little did I know it would kickstart a career that continues to be the adventure of a lifetime.

“Going back and playing Joel again was a small way to show my enormous gratitude to the cast, crew and fans of the show.”

Among the ’00s-era returners are Chris Milligan, who played Kyle Canning, Morgan Baker as Callum Rebecchi, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who played Izzy Hoyland, and James Mason as Chris Pappas.

Pippa Black, who played Elle Robinson, and her on-screen brother Jordan Patrick Smith, who played Andrew Robinson, will also return.

Olympia Valance, who starred as Paige Smith, will return from the show’s final era, along with Jodi Anasta as Elly Conway, Zoe Cramond, who played Amy Williams, and Kate Kendall as Lauren Turner.

Ben Hall as Ned Willis, Olivia Junkeer, who played Yashvi Rebecchi, and Zima Anderson as Roxy Willis have also been announced as returning.

Neighbors executive producer Jason Herbison said, “Whether the ’80s, ’90s, ’00s or teenage years is your favorite decade, we will deliver something for everyone when Neighbors comes to an end.

“Alongside the current cast, we’ll be celebrating the most memorable characters from many eras, with a few surprises up our sleeves.”

The show, which also launched the careers of Hollywood stars Margot Robbie and Liam Hemsworth, will end production in June after being shelved by its network.

Filming has begun for the final month of the series, with the final episode airing on August 1st.
